Paul preached and taught the gospel of grace.
Acts 20:24 “But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself so that I might finish my course with joy and the ministry which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.”
How did Paul get his gospel of the grace of God?
Galatians 1:6-12 “I marvel that you are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that you have received, let him be accursed. For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? For if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ. But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel that was preached of me is not after man. For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by revelation of Jesus Christ.”
Paul claims that he received his gospel by revelation of Jesus Christ, He did not receive it from man, neither was he taught it. So Paul was not saved as we are. Jesus sent his apostles to go and preach the gospel to all the world.
Mark 16:15-16 “And he said unto them, Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believes and is baptizes shall be saved; but he believes not shall be damned.”
On the day of Pentacost Peter stood up to preach, and 3,000 souls were added unto their number.
Acts 2:38-39 “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of youin the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.”
All of the disciples preached the Word and they preached Christ.
Acts 8:4-6 “Therefore they that were scattered abroad went everywhere preaching the Word. Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them. And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spoke, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did.”
Jesus ordained his twelve apostles to go into all the world, to preach the gospel to every person. They were to make disciples by teaching them to obey all things whatsoever that Jesus had commanded them. Then the new disciples would also go out into all the world to preach the gospel to every person, and make even more disciples.
Yet Paul claimed that Jesus made a special exception just for him, and that he appeared to him, and preached a DIFFERENT gospel to him, and that was how he got saved. Remember that Paul said he did not receive his gospel from men, nor was he taught it, but by revelation of Jesus Christ.
Galatians 1:11-12 But I certify you brethren that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.”
So according to Paul, Jesus did not send a man to preach the gospel to him, nor to teach it to him. Jesus did not reach out to him through either apostle, or evangelist, or disciple; with the gospel entrusted to the twelve apostles, (I include Matthias). According to Paul, Jesus appeared to him on the Damascus road and told him that he would appear unto him again, to tell him more things. And the gospel that Jesus gave Paul was an entirely DIFFERENT gospel than what was entrusted to the twelve apostles.
Acts 26:13-16 “At midday, O king, I saw in the way a light from heaven, above the brightness of the sun, shining round about me and them which journeyed with me. And when we were all fallen to the earth, I heard a voice speaking unto me, and saying in the Hebrew tongue, Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? It is hard for you to kick against the pricks. And I said, who are you, Lord? And he said, I am Jesus whom you persecute. But rise, and stand upon your feet: for I have appeared unto you for this purpose, to make you a minister and a witness both of these things which you have seen, AND OF THOSE THINGS IN THE WHICH I WILL APPEAR UNTO YOU.”
Galatians 2:6-8 “But of those who seemed to be somewhat, (whatsoever they were, it makes no matter to me: God accepts no man’s person:) for they who seemed to be somewhat in conference added nothing to me: but contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcised was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter; (for he that wrought effectually in Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, the same was mighty in me toward the Gentiles).”
Paul by his own testimony stated that Peter had the gospel of the circumcision, and that Peter had the gospel of the uncircumcised; two entirely different gospels! Yet the facts prove that Peter first preached the gospel to the Gentiles, and it was the very same gospel that he preached to the Jews. So Paul obviously got his facts mixed up. (Acts 10:1-48).
Acts 11:1-18 “And the apostles and the brethren that were in Judaea heard that the Gentiles had also received the Word of God. And when Peter was come up to Jerusalem, they that were of the circumcision contended with him. Saying, you went into men uncircumcised, and did eat with them. But Peter rehearsed the matter from the beginning, and expounded it by order unto them, saying, I was in the city of Joppa praying: and in a trance I saw a vision, a certain vessel descend, as it had been a great sheet, let down from heaven by four corners; and it came even to me: Upon the which when I had fastened mine eyes, I considered, and saw four footed beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air. And I heard a voice saying unto me, Arise, Peter, slay and eat. But I said, Not so, Lord: for nothing common or unclean has at any time entered into my mouth. But the voice answered me again from heaven, What God has cleansed, that call not common. And this was done three times: and all were drawn up again into heaven. And, behold, immediately there were already come unto the house where I was, sent from Caesarea unto me. And the Spirit bade me go with them, nothing doubting. Moreover these six brethren accompanied me, and we entered into the man’s house: and he showed us how he had seen an angel in his house, which stood and said unto him, Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon, whose surname is Peter; who will tell you words, whereby you and all your house shall be saved. And as I began to speak. the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning. Then remembered I the Word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but you shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost. For as much as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God? When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then has God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.”
Paul demonstrated a total disrespect for the apostles and the elders in Jerusalem, by saying, “whatsoever they were, it makes no difference to me.”
Paul also was not receptive and unteachable to EVERYTHING that they said, for Paul testified, “for they who seemed to be somewhat in conference added NOTHING to me.”
Galatians 2:6 “But of those who seemed to be somewhat, (what so ever they were, it makes no matter to me for God accepts no man’s person:) for they who seemed to be somewhat in conference added nothing to me.”
So let us get the facts straight from Paul’s very own testimony.
#1 Paul did not get saved by hearing the gospel of the kingdom of God that the twelve apostles, evangelists, and disciples preached.
#2 Paul did not receive his gospel from man, nor was he taught it.
#3 Jesus made a special appearance to Paul, and Paul was saved by hearing a DIFFERENT gospel, straight from the lips of Jesus.
#4 Jesus promised to appear to Paul again, to confer more of this NEW and DIFFERENT gospel unto him.
#5 Paul did not confer with flesh and blood, until three years later, he spent fifteen days with Peter, and then fourteen years after, he went to Jerusalem to see the apostles and elders.
Galatians 1:16-18 “To reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among the heathen: immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood: neither went I up to Jerusalem to them which were apostles before me; but I went into Arabia, and returned again unto Damascus. Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to see Peter, and abode with him fifteen days.”
Galatians 2:1 “Then fourteen years after I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, and took Titus with me also.”
#6 Paul showed disrespect to the apostle’s authority, and said they added NOTHING to him.
Galatians 2:6 “But of these who seemed to be somewhat, (whatsoever they were, it makes no matter to me: God accepts no man’s person:) for they who seemed to be somewhat in conference added nothing to me.”
#7 Paul stated plainly that his gospel was the gospel of the Gentiles, or the Gospel of grace; and it was an entirely different gospel than the gospel entrusted to Peter.
#8 Facts prove that Peter first preached the gospel to the Gentiles, not Paul. Peter preached the same gospel to the Gentiles as he did to the Jews. And “while Peter yet spoke these words, the Holy Ghost fell on them that heard the Word.” (Acts 10:44).
The Gentiles got saved hearing the gospel that Jesus Christ entrusted to Peter. This demonstrates clearly that there was no need for a different gospel. The one and only “EVERLASTING GOSPEL” saves EVERYONE who believes it.
Revelation 14:6 “And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach to them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people.”
Both Jews and Gentiles got saved equally, believing the same gospel!
All of this sounds very familiar. Paul claimed that Jesus appeared to him in private to give him a NEW gospel. So did Joseph Smith claim that Jesus appeared unto him, and showed him where to find the Book of Mormon, which is another gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.
So did Mr. Russell claim that Jesus appeared unto him in private, to found the Jehovah’s Witnesses.
I met a homeless man in San Diego, Ca. He changed his name to Paul, and he preached Paul’s epistles in Balboa Park. He saw demons standing in front of him, and spoke to them , while I watched him. He said that he had ascended into the third heaven as Paul did, and he saw God. He said his eyes were blue flames of fire. He also said he was one of the two witnesses in the Book of Revelation. I believe that Paul himself believed all of these things, and that he was sincere. However, I do not believe his message or his testimony.
I believe in one gospel only, that was personally entrusted by Jesus Christ to the twelve apostles. In the Book of Revelation only one gospel is mentioned.
Jesus also praised the church of Ephesus, a church which Paul founded, “and you have tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and have found them liars.” (Revelation 2:2).
