Matthew 18:1-6 “At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? And Jesus called a little child unto him, set him in the midst of them. Ans said, Verily I say unto you, except you be converted, and become as little children, you shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever shall humble himself as this little child, the same is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receives me. But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.”
What are the characteristics of a child?
#1 Does not provide for their own needs. They look unto their earthly father or mother to provide everything for them.
#2 Does not work a secular job. They do chores around the household that they live in.
#3 Submissive to the authority of their father and mother. They obey their commands.
#4 Ever learning more. Asking questions from curiosity. In Jesus’ day the child that he placed in their midst learned from their own parents. family, and teachers at the Jewish synagogue. There were no godless public schools like we have today. There was no worldly television, books, computers, or video games.
#5 Full of love for their parents. The little girl wants to be just like her mother and dearly loves her father. The little boy wants to be just like his father when he grows up and dearly loves his mother.
#6 Anything that they desire they ask their father or mother for.
#7 Full of praise and adoration for their father and mother. They say things like, “My daddy is the best daddy in the whole world! My daddy is the strongest, smartest, best looking daddy in the whole world!
#8 Full of dreams of what they want to be and do when they grow up.
#9 Quick to forgive. They may be angry with someone, but they always forgive.
#10 Worry free. They play and enjoy their lives and do not worry about adult things.
#11 They have no interest in the vices and sins of adults. They don’t want sex, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, pornagraphy, killing, inflicting permanent injury on others, etc.
#12 They are skin color blind. Children love each other. Black, white, brown, red, yellow; it doesn’t matter to them.
#13 Quick to believe. Small children are very quick to believe in God and in Jesus Christ. They believe the stories and things that they are told.
#14 They are in this world, but not of it. They have no interest whatsoever in world events. They live in their own world of imagination.
#15 They allow their parents to plan and control their lives for them.
#16 They love to give gifts to those they love, especially their father and their mother.
#17 They imitate those around them and act like them. They pick up words, phrases, and actions from those around them.
#18 Full of gratitude and thanksgiving for what they receive. They scream with delight, give hugs and kisses for even the smallest of gifts given to them.
#19 Trusting. They place their full trust and confidence in their father and mother.
#20 They love to be with other children. They also often idolize a older brother or sister.
#21 They have a strong sense of belonging to their family, school, city, state, and country.
I’m sure this list is not complete, but it is more than enough to paint a picture to understand what Jesus meant. If you want to enter the kingdom of heaven, you MUST be converted and become as a little child. There is no salvation apart from this. So I’m now going to apply these characteristics to ourselves. We need to see what we are to be converted unto. Jesus NEVER said we are saved by JUST a confession, a prayer, or a “new Birth”. All of these things are the first steps to being converted and becoming as a little child. That is where eternal salvation lies. So here are the applications for our own lives. And again, this is not meant to be a complete list.
#1 Don’t look to yourself or your own ability to supply your needs. Look to your Heavenly Father.
Matthew 6:24-33 “No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what you shall eat, or what you shall drink; nor yet for your body, what you shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your Heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much better than they? Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? And why take thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: and yet I say unto you, that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (for after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your Heavenly Father knows that you have need of all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness: and all these things shall be added unto you.”
#2 Don’t work a secular job. Work for God full-time without a paycheck or salary. Live by faith and prayer alone.
In the Lord’s prayer Jesus told us to pray, “give us this day our daily bread.” Modern Christians DO NOT DO THIS. They pray it in church and the family altar, and then they DO NOT OBEY IT. This is sin. This is rebellion against King Jesus. This is hypocrisy. Instead, we have jobs, bank accounts, investments, etc. Look carefully at the comparison between those who do what Jesus commanded, and those who do not do what Jesus commanded. Look at what Jesus said would happen to each of them.
Matthew 19:16-30 “And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life? And he said unto him, Why call me good? There is none good but one, that is, God: but if you will enter into life, keep the commandments. He said unto him, Which? Jesus said, You shall do no murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not bear false witness, honor your father and your mother: and, you shall love your neighbor as yourself. The young man said unto him, all these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet? Jesus said unto him, If you will be perfect, go and sell what you have, and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me. But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions. Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven. And again I say unto you. It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved? But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible. Then answered Peter and said unto him, Behold we have forsaken all, and followed you; what shall we have therefore? And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, that you which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, you also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And everyone that has forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name’s sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life. But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.”
#3 Be submissive to God’s commands and obey them. More specifically, be submissive to the commands of King Jesus the Word of God, and obey him.
Luke 6:46 “And why call me Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?”
Matthew 7:21-27 “NOT every one that says unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that does the will of my father which is in heaven. Many will say unto me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in your name? and in your name have cast out devils? and in your name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you; depart from me, you that work iniquity. Therefore whosoever hears these sayings of mine, and does them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not; for it was founded upon a rock. And every one that hears these sayings of mine, and does them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.”
#4 Be ever learning more. Ask questions of God, expecting his answers.
Cut off the world’s education, it’s TV programs, it’s movies, it’s newspapers, it’s books, it’s magazines, worldly things on the internet, and all other things like these.
John 8:31-32 “Then said Jesus to those Jews who believed on him, If you continue in my Word, then are you my disciples indeed; and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
Matthew 11:28-30 “Come unto me, all you that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and you shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
Matthew 7:7-8 “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock; and it shall be opened unto you: for everyone who asks receives; and he that seeks finds; and to him that knocks it shall be opened.”
Luke 8:14 “And that which fell among thorns are they, which when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.”
#5 Be full of love for your Heavenly Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
You can CHOOSE who you will love.
Psalm 91:14 “Because he has set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he has known my name.”
Matthew 22:36-40 “Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, you shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”
#6 Whatever you desire, don’t go out to get it yourself by your own effort. Ask your Heavenly Father for it in prayer.
Mark 11:24 “Therefore I say unto you, What things soever you desire, when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you shall have them.” John 14:13-14 “And whatsoever you shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you shall ask anything in my name, I will do it.”
John 5:7 “If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, you shall ask what you will, and it shall be done unto you.”
John 16:23-24 “And in that day you shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, whatsoever you shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. Hitherto have you asked nothing in my name: ask, and you shall receive, that your joy may be full.”
#7 Be full of praise and worship for your Heavenly Father in Jesus’ name.
Take time during each day to thank, praise, and worship your Heavenly Father.
#8 Be full of dreams about doing God’s will.
Instead of dreaming about riches, fame, success, having fun, the perfect family, etc. Dream about what God wants you to do. Also, dream about heaven and what it will be like going there some day. Shift your dreams from worldly things to spiritual things.
#9 Be quick to forgive.
Mark 11:25-26 “And when you stand praying, forgive, if you have aught against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses. ”
Luke 17:3-4 “Take heed to yourselves: if your brother trespass against you, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him. And if he trespass against you seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to you, saying, I repent; you shall forgive him.”
Matthew 18:21-35 “Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Till seven times? Jesus said unto him, I say not unto you, until seven times: but, until seventy times seven. Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king which would take account of his servants. And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents. But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his Lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made. The servant therefore fell down, and worshiped him, saying, Lord have patience with me, and I will pay you all. Then the Lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt. But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellowservants, which owed him a hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, pay me that you owe. And his fellowservant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, have patience with me, and I will pay you all. And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt. So when his fellowservants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto their Lord all that was done. Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O you wicked servant, I forgave you all that debt, because you desired me: should not you also have had compassion on your fellowservant, even as I had pity on you? And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him. So also shall my Heavenly Father do also unto you, if you from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.”
#10 Live worry free.
Matthew 6:31-34 “Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things the Gentiles seek:) for your Heavenly Father knows that you have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness: and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for tomorrow: for tomorrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.”
#11 Take no interest in the vices and the sins that are around you.
Matthew 4:17 :From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
Matthew 7:13-14 “Enter in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leads to destruction, and many there be that go in thereat: because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leads unto life, and few there be that find it.”
Matthew 7:17-23 “Even so every good tree brings forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree brings forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that brings not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits you shall know them. “Not every one that says unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that does the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say unto me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in your name? and in your name have cast out devils? And in your name have done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, you that work iniquity.”
Matthew 5:29-30 “And if thy right eye offend you, pluck it out, and cast it from you: for it is profitable for you that one of your members should perish, and not that your whole body should be cast into hell. And if your right hand offend you, cut it off, and cast it from you: for it is profitable for you that one of your members should perish, and not that your whole body should should be cast into hell.”
John 5:24-29 “Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that hears my word, and believes on him that sent me, has everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. Verily, verily, I say unto you, the hour is coming and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live. For as the Father has life in himself; so has he given the Son to have life in himself; and has given him authority to execute judgement also, because he is the Son of man. Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice. And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.”
#12 Love all people. Be color blind.
All men and women descend from Adam and Eve. Jesus died for all of them equally. There are only two races on the earth, the children of God and the children of the devil.
John 3:16-17 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.” For God so loved the world, that is everybody. In heaven there will be people from all races.
Revelation 7:9 “After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands.”
#13 Be quick to believe.
Matthew 17:17-21 “Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I suffer you? Bring him here to me. And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured for that very hour. Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, why could we not cast him out? And Jesus said unto them, because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you shall say unto this mountain, remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove: and nothing shall be impossible to you. Howbeit this kind goes not out but by prayer and fasting.”
Mark 16:9-14 “Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils. And she went and told them that had been with him, as they mourned and wept. And they, when they had heard that he was alive, and had been seen of her, believed not. After that he appeared in another form to two of them, as they walked and went into the country. And they went and told it unto the residue: neither believed they them. Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them that had seen him after he was risen. And he said unto them, Go you into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature, he that believes and is baptized shall be saved: but he that believes not shall be damned.”
John 20:24-31 “But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. The other disciples therefore said unto him, we have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe. And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas was with them: Then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you. Then said he to Thomas, Reach hither your finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither your hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. Jesus said unto him, Thomas, because you have seen me, you have believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed. And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: but these are written, that you might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you might have life through his name.”
#14 Live in the world, but do not be of the world. Let your inner imaginations be of God and his kingdom.
Genesis 6:5 “And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.”
Deuteronomy 6:5-9 “And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might. And these words, which I command you this day, shall be in your heart: and you shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up. And you shall bind them for a sign upon your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. And you shall write them upon the posts of your house, and on your gates.
Psalm 1:1-3 “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord: and in his law does he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither: and whatsoever he does shall prosper.”
#15 Allow God to plan and control your life.
Luke 6:46-49 “And why call me Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say? Whosoever comes to me, and hears my sayings, and does them, I will show you to whom he is like: he is like a man which built a house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the steam beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. But he that hears, and does not, is like a man that without a foundation built his house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell: and the ruin of that house was great.”
John 10:3-5,14,16 “To him the porter opens; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calls his own sheep by name, and leads them out. And when he puts forth his own sheep, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice. And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers. I am the Good Shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. And other sheep I have that are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice: and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.”
Mark 8:34-38 “And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life will lose it; But whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it. For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and my words in this adulteress and sinful generation: of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.”
#16 Love to give gifts and of yourself.
Matthew 25:34-40 “Then shall the king say unto them on his right hand, Come, you blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: for I was hungry, and you gave me meat: I was thirsty, and you gave me drink: I was a stranger, and you took me in: Naked, and you clothed me: I was sick, and you visited me: I was in prison, and you came unto me. And then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we you hungry, and fed you? or thirsty, and gave you drink? When saw we you a stranger, and took you in? Or naked, and clothed you? And when saw we you sick, or in prison, and came unto you? And the king shall answer and say unto them, verily I say unto you, inasmuch as you have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, you have done it unto me.”
James 1:27 “Pure religeon and undefiled before God and the Father is this, to visit the fatherless and the widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.”
James 2:14-20 “What does it profit, my brethren, though a man say that he have faith, and have not works? Can faith save him? If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, and one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be warmed and filled: notwithstanding you give them not those things which are needful to the body; what does it profit? Even so faith, if it have not works, is dead, being alone. Yea, a man may say, you have faith, and I have works: show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. You believe that there is one God; you do well: the devils also believe, and tremble. But will you know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?”
1 John 3:17-18 “But whoso has this world’s good, and sees his brother have need, and shuts up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwells the love of God in him? My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue: but in deed and in truth.”
#17 Imitate God and those who present a good example before you.
Matthew 5:48 “Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.”
1 John 2:3-6 “And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that says, I know him, and keeps not his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoso keeps his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. He that says he abides in him aught himself also so to walk, even as he walked.”
1 Peter 4:1-2 “Forasmuch then as Christ has suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin; that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.”
1 Peter 5:5-6 “Likewise, you younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resists the proud, and gives grace unto the humble. Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time.”
#18 Be full of gratitude for everything that you have.
I used to be spoiled. Almost all Americans are spoiled, because we are a rich society. Jesus has the cure.
Luke 12:29-34 “And seek not what you shall eat, or what you shall drink, neither be of a doubtful mind. For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knows that you have need of these things. But rather seek the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you. Fear not little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Sell that you have and give alms; provide for yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that fails not, where no thief approaches, neither moth corrupts. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”
#19 Place all of your trust in your Heavenly Father.
Mark 11:22 “And Jesus answering said unto them, Have faith in God.”
I have discovered that the place of greatest blessings, is where I have placed my life in God’s hands. I have given up all that I had on several different occasion. I have no job or income. I have nothing to protect myself with. I take no medication, I see no doctor. I literally trust God for everything that I have. It is very lonely following Jesus today. God has filled my emotional and companionship needs. I do not provide for myself. I allow my Heavenly Father to provide all that I need. Jesus said to pray, “Give us this day our daily bread.” (Matthew 6:11). He desires to meet our DAILY needs as we trust in him.
#20 Love your brothers and sisters in Christ.
John 15:12-14,17 “This is my commandment, that you love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends, if you do whatsoever I command you. These things I command you, that you love one another.”
1 John 3:11-16 “For this is the message that you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother’s righteous. Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you. We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loves not his brother abides in death. Whosoever hates his brother is a murderer: and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.”
1 John 4:7-12 “Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God: and everyone that loves is born of God, and knows God. He that loves not, knows not God: for God is love. In this was manifest the love of God towards us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. No man has seen God at any time, if we love one another, God dwells in us, and his love is perfected in us.”
1 John 5:2-3 “By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.”
#21 Have a strong sense of belonging to God.
John 12:25-26 “He that loves his life shall lose it; and he that hates his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him shall my Father honor.”
Matthew 12:49-50 “And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.”
Luke 6:32-36 “For if you love them which love you, what thank have you? for sinners also love those that love them. And if you do good to them which do good to you, what thank have you? for sinners do also the same. And if you lend to them of whom you hope to receive, what thank have you? For sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again. But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again: and your reward shall be great, and you shall be the children of the highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil. Be you therefore merciful: as your Father also is merciful.”
John 10:27-29 “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father which gave them me, is greater than all: and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.”
Luke 15:4-10 “What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, does not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which was lost, until he find it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying unto them, rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep that was lost. I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repents, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance. Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, does not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it? And when she has found it, she calls her friends and her neighbors together, saying, Rejoice with me; for I have found the piece that was lost. Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repents.”
