Was Jesus King Before Ascension? Dispensational Ideology: A Self-Avowed Anti-Jesus Doctrine, Pt3

In 1902, William Wrede -- a Lutheran theological student in Germany -- wrote a book entitled Paul where he observed that Paul never quotes Jesus with a lesson given to Paul. Wrede said Paul thus barely knew Jesus, and was not a true disciple of Jesus. This led to the "Back to Jesus" movement sweeping Germany for at least 27 years until Bultmann's famous response quashed it in 1929.

Bultmann responded by embracing the facts Wrede put forth as admittedly true. However, Bultmann turned it around as proof why we should only listen to Paul. Bultmann justified we can dispense henceforth considering the words of Jesus as applicable for our lives today by the example of Paul.

Bultmann - one of the top 4 most influential theologians of the 20th century -- said the proof comes from a command from Paul to essentially know Jesus no longer by his doctrines on earth. Bultmann proclaimed that Jesus belongs to another dispensation than our current one, and we can safely ignore his lessons while he spoke in the flesh.

Bultmann's dispensational ideology was, he contended, supported by Paul's words in 2 Cor. 5:13 -- we "once knew Jesus in the flesh," but "we know him thus no more" -- in the flesh. Hence, Bultmann taught this verse proves that all Jesus' words are legitimately ignored, on the authority of Paul from this verse.

The evil purpose of eviscerating the validity of all four gospels at once, even John, was achieved.

In 1937, Bonhoeffer wrote Cost of Discipleship to refute and shame Dispensationalists for throwing the words of Jesus to one side, and only preaching a cheap grace. Bonhoeffer coined the term "cheap grace," although he was inspired by Kierkegaard who railed against "grace purchased for a song" (nothing).
