Isaiah 28:16-17 Destroys Dispensationalism for the Stone Rejected is the Cornerstone of the Present

Jun 25, 2022

Video Description

RERUN 10-23-2023

Isaiah 28:16 proves that Jesus’ Words are the rock and cornerstone upon which we must rely and put in practice, which will keep us resilient, and be able to flee to safety when troubles come upon us. This meaning is especially so once we tie together Jesus’s lesson on building on the rock vs. on sand in Matthew 7:42-47. And Jesus in Luke 20:13-17 teaches he is the cornerstone offered to the locals of his day, but they were conspiring to kill him anyway. Isaiah 28:16 reads:

Therefore thus says the Lord [YHWH] “Behold, I am the one who has laid a stone in Zion, a stone [Heb. Even] a tested stone, a precious cornerstone [singular], of a sure foundation; Whoever believes in [better: confirms, supports, relies upon, Heb. Aman] will not haste / have to flee.”

This ties together with Luke 20:13-17 where Jesus identifies himself as a cornerstone as the same as a son who is rejected when he returns to take his father’s vineyard. Luke 20:13-17 says:

13 “Then the owner of the vineyard said, ‘What shall I do? I will send my son, whom I love; perhaps they will respect him.’

14 “But when the tenants saw him, they talked the matter over. ‘This is the heir,’ they said. ‘Let’s kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.’ 15 So they threw him out of the vineyard and killed him.

“What then will the owner of the vineyard do to them? 16 He will come and kill those tenants and give the vineyard to others.”

When the people heard this, they said, “God forbid!”

17 Jesus looked directly at them and asked, “Then what is the meaning of that which is written:

“‘The stone the builders rejected

has become the cornerstone’[]? [Psalm 118:22]

Compare this to Matthew 7:24-27

24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.

25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.

26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.

27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” Matthew 7:24-27,

You can find an article that no longer appears on in the JWO site on git.hub, but you can see the PDF here: https://airtable.com/shrq5wJLKkGARejwy entitled Isaiah's Prophecy about SHL vs. Jesus

This article shows that Isaiah 28:14-18 has two apparent prophecies about Saul who people trust, and make a covenant with him, but it is a covenant with death. In the midst of his handwork is the sure foundation stone -- Jesus. As explained in Isaiah's Prophecy about SHL v Jesus:

"Thus this Isaiah chapter 28 passage means these covenant-people believe their covenant with SHL gives them salvation / protection from God's wrath. Then this passage says these people whose prophets and leaders are apostate against God's Law are at odds with what God describes as something He ALREADY LAID as a "chief cornerstone" in Zion. (Isaiah 28:16; see below.) "Behold I am the one who has LAID as a foundation in Zion....a precious cornerstone."

With ears to hear to verses 14-18 -- with SAUL placed besides SHEOL as a legitimate alternative translation, let's read:

14 Therefore hear the word of the LORD, you scoffers, who rule this people in Jerusalem!

15 Because you have said, “We have made a covenant with death, and with SAUL / Sheol we have an agreement, when the overwhelming whip passes through it will not come to us, for we have made lies our refuge, and in falsehood we have taken shelter”;

16 therefore thus says the Lord GOD, “Behold, I am the one who has laid [c] as a foundation in Zion, a stone, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone, of a sure foundation: ‘Whoever believes [aman: relies upon it / confirms it] will not be in haste’ [or, 'have to flee.'

17 And I will make justice the line, and righteousness the plumb line; and hail will sweep away the refuge of lies, and waters will overwhelm the shelter.”

18 Then your covenant with death will be annulled, and your agreement with SAUL / Sheol will not stand; when the overwhelming scourge passes through, you will be beaten down by it.
