What is the Origin of Never Uttering Name of YHWH? Was Jesus Convicted of This?

Jul 25, 2022

Video Description

A Septuagint Greek mistranslation in 247 BC flatly prohibited uttering the name of YHWH, based on Leviticus 24:15-16. This became a blasphemy to utter the name of YHWH.

Jesus in the final meeting with the High Priest says:

Matt 26:64 (KJV)

“Yahshua saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.” 65 Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying, “He hath spoken blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard his blasphemy.” 66 What think ye? They answered and said, “He is guilty of death.”

The statement he said about coming on clouds of glory was not a blasphemy , obviously. But the word "power" is a euphemism. The Christian scribes equally adopted the rule that writing YHWH down on paper, and if that paper was thrown in the trash (such as on a draft copying effort), they would be guilty of blasphemy. So they used euphemisms, leaving it implied by a culture that knew what the scribe was doing. We know also from the High Priest's response -- he said that from Jesus own mouth he was convicted, and then 'rent his clothes' -- a command in the Sanhedrin procedures written 140 yrs later to codify Sanhedrin rules about someone who simply said the Name.

Hence, the High Priest had no choice. Jesus did nothing actually wrong, but it also means the High Priest was simply misled by his culture to accept the Septuagint Greek translation of the Hebrew -- another indictment on that terrible mistranslation of God's words. This is a lesson to all those engaged in Bible translation that they hold a sacred duty, and also liability for their deliberate changing of God's word.
