Bible Study on Peace - Concept of Shalom
Jesus once said:
27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful. (John 14:27).
The word Jesus likely used in Hebrew was Shalom - the word of greeting that meant "Peace."
Jesus similarly said in the Sermon on the Mount:
"So don't worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today's trouble is enough for today."
(Matthew 6:34, New Living).
Peace is the opposite of worry, fear and anxiety. Peace means your heart should not be troubled by worry or fearful of dangers. Peace means you take one day at a time, and do not worry so much about tomorrow because today's problems are enough to handle. Such peace only comes from trusting God day by day, and following him.
To help your Shalom / Peace, God gives us numerous verses to encourage us to replace fear and anxiety with trust in God's strength helping us and upholding us with God's own right hand. One of the best is Isaiah 41:10:
'Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.' (Isaiah 41:10 NASB.)
