Jesus in Matthew 19 tells a rich man that to be "perfect" he should sell all his possessions, and give it to the poor. Ryan says if I believe in Jesus' dispensation as still valid, I am disobeying Jesus because obviously I own a laptop, and it has not been sold, etc., etc.
However, the Hebrew Matthew proves that 3 lines were dropped out. These missing lines prove that Jesus was addressing a moral failure of the rich man to have never given any money to help the poor. Here is the missing text around verse 22:
22) But when the rich / young man heard this teaching, he scratched his head, and it displeased him for he had much property. And the Lord said to him “How do you say ‘I have performed the law and the prophets?’ seeing that it is written in the Law ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself,’ but many of your brothers, sons of Abraham, are clad with filth, dying for hunger, and your house is full of many goods, and nothing at all goes out of it to them.”
