Habakkuk 2:4-5 states:
KJV 1611
4 Behold, his soul which is [1] lifted up is [2] not upright in him: but [3] the just shall live by his faith.
5 Yea also, because [4] he transgresses by wine, [5] he is a proud man, neither [6] keeps at home, who [7] enlargeth his desire as hell [Sh’l], and [8] is as death, and cannot be satisfied, but [9] gathers unto him all nations, and heaps unto him all people:
These re superior differences in Jewish Publication Society 1917
4. Behold, his soul is [1] puffed up, [... [3] the righteous shall live by his faith. .... 5. Yea, moreover, [4] wine is a treacherous dealer;
Does Paul match the "puffed" up and "haughty" man traits in these 9 factors? Paul provides a test:
“If any man gives different teaching, not in agreement with the true words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and with the teaching which is in agreement with true religion, He has an over-high opinion of himself; ….” 1 Tim. 6:3-4
CONTRADICTION 1 -- TEMPLES
1a. Paul teaches God “does not dwell in temples made with human hands.” (Acts 17:24) (Greek cheiropoietois - hand-made)
1b. Jesus teaches "And he who swears by the temple swears by it and by the one who dwells in it." (Matt. 23:21.) Jesus elsewhere referred to the Temple at Jerusalem as a "Temple made with hands." (Mark 14:58)(Greek cheiropoieton, 'made with hands.')
CONTRADICTION 2 -- THE LAW
2a. Paul is blunt the Law has ceased for anyone who follows Jesus in Ephesians 2:15, Colossians 2:14, 2 Cor. 3:11-17, Romans 7:1-3 et seq, and Galatians 3:19 et seq. The Law is "abolished," "done away with," "nailed to a tree," "has faded away,' and was "only ordained by angels...who are no gods.“
2b. “(17) Think not that I came to destroy the Law [of Moses] or the prophets: I came not to destroy, but to fulfil. (18) For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass away from the Law, till all things be accomplished [i.e., all things predicted appear on the stage of history]. (19) Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, shall be called least [by those] in the kingdom of heaven: ....” (Matt 5:17-19 ASV modified “by those” based on grammar.)
CONTRADICTION #3 -- THE PHARISEES
3a.Philippians 3:5-6 that as a result of his time as a Pharisee that "as touching righteousness, found blameless." Cf. Acts 26:5 where Paul says "I conformed to the strictest sect of our religion, living as a Pharisee.“
3b. In Matthew 23:23 that the Pharisees were shallow teachers of the Law, teaching only tithing but “leaving undone” (not taught) the "weightier matters of the Law" -- the “judgments” (right and wrong), "mercy" (KJV Ex.20:6) and "pistis" (Greek for obedient "faithfulness" or faith)
CONTRADICTION 4 - SALVATION
4a. Paul teaches one is not justified nor born again by repentance from sin, but by faith alone. (Eph. 2:8-9; Rom. 4:4. See also Romans 3:28.) Any such addition to Paul's salvation by faith alone doctrine is the heresy of "works salvation." (Wilkin, Stanley, Hodge.)
4b. Jesus teaches the one who repents from sin is "justified." (Parable of the Publican and the Pharisee. Luke 18:10-14.) The son who was dead but now repents from life of sin with prostitutes, turns around back to the Father, is "alive again" (born again). (Parable of the Prodigal Son, Luke 15:1-32, viz. v. 24.)
CONTRADICTION 5 - SALVATION #2
5a. Paul teaches that to have eternal life, “say with your mouth that Jesus is Lord” and “believe He is resurrected.” (Rom. 10:9. See also 1 Cor. 15:1-5.) Do not add any work. "Now to him that worketh, the reward is not reckoned as of grace, but as of debt."(Rom. 4:4.) If salvation depends on keeping the Law, then salvation by faith is made void. "[I]f they that are of the law are heirs, faith is made void..." (Rom.4:14.)
5b. Jesus says those who call me “Lord, Lord,” and do many mighty works (miracles, exerocisms), etc., but do works of “anomia” (lawlessness or apostasy against the Law itself), “I will tell them I never knew you.” (Matt 7:21-23.) To have eternal life, follow the Ten Commandments, deny yourself (i.e., repent and do works worthy of repentance) and "follow Me," you "shall have eternal life." (Matthew 19:27-29; Matthew 10:37-39; John 12:25-26.)
BOASTING
Paul's boastings are obvious:
I Corinthians 14:18 “I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all.”
I Corinthians 15:10 :But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.”
II Corinthians 10:8 “For though I should boast somewhat more of our authority, which the Lord hath given us for edification, and not for your destruction, I should not be ashamed:”
II Corinthians 11:23 “Are they ministers (i.e., the 12 apostles) of Christ? (I speak as a fool) I am more; in labours more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths oft.”
