Matthew 3:17 and Luke 3:22 formerly had "this day I have begotten thee" spoken by YHWH over Jesus.
The 383 AD debate between Bishop Faustus and Augustine is cited as proof that Augustine lost the debate. Faustus proved the "this day I have begotten thee" in both Matthew & Luke in 383 AD contradict the Nicene Creed. Bishop Faustus says this means you are either a Catholic or Matthean -- you cannot be both. He meant the Nicene Creed turned Jesus into an eternal son.
But if Jesus is begotten Son of God at his birth, Jesus cannot be an eternal son.
Faustus underestimated Augustine, and did not realize this party would by 405 have power and influence with the pope directly, or Jerome. And Jerome in the 405 AD vulgate would remove "this day I have begotten thee" from both Matthew and Luke baptismal accounts, even though all Vulgate earlier Bibles had it, as far as they are named; and never is it noted to be missing.
The oldest text in Greek is the Codex Bezae.
