In 1792, Geddes first corrected the mistranslation of Exodus 3:14 from "i am that I am" to "I will be what I will be."
The reason this is not accepted is the Septuagint in 2 ways. It translated the Hebrew to Greek in 247 BC as "I am that I am."
The Jews got used to this, and were told the Septuagint was a miraculously accuruate Bible translated identically by 70 translators -- hence the name Septuagint -- 70.
From a Christian perspective, if we accept the Septuagint is wrong, this casts Paul in doubt for he used the Septuagint over 30 times when it was materially different than the Hebrew Bible, and hence Paul was thought to be 'correcting' the Holy Bible, by Paul-fan scholars.
The third reason has to do with the Trinity -- for Jesus was thought to be saying he was I Am when he gave 7 I am statements in John, e.g., I am the bread of life.
This error in translation is 100% not corrected in any major Bible as a result.
